Mega Millions Megaplier
The Megaplier is a special feature that boosts the value of non-jackpot prizes for those players who add the option to their ticket. If you include the Megaplier, you could even win $5 million without matching all the numbers. Here is exactly how it works:
What is the Megaplier?
The Megaplier is the name given to Mega Millions’ multiplier. In each draw, prizes can be increased by anywhere between 2X and 5X their original value.
To determine which multiplier will be applied, a separate draw takes place when one Megaplier is selected at random from a pool of 15 balls. Each ball is marked with a value – 2X, 3X, 4X or 5X:
- 2X - 5 Balls
- 3X - 6 Balls
- 4X - 3 Balls
- 5X - 1 Ball
How to Play
The Megaplier does not automatically increase every Mega Millions win. You need to opt in by marking the relevant box on your playslip and paying an extra $1 per game. This has to be done at the moment you purchase your ticket, otherwise you will receive the standard prize if you win.
Megaplier only applies to the eight prize levels beneath the jackpot. If you match all six numbers, your payout is not increased at all even if you added the Megaplier.

When you add the Megaplier to your ticket, it does not alter your odds of winning a prize at all. It just means you’ll get a larger payout if you win.
